The importance Of Personality

I find it is always very good to work with people who are not flat in there personality on camera .

Actresses are good . But I also believe that if you are not capturing a persons spirit on film you really are just making a flatter picture , one without emotion and clarity to a story .

how does everyone else feel about this .

I also only work with people who have either a facination with faerie and mythical creatures or they really truly believe they are out there .

How does this work in all of your photos ?

I am just curious .

hugs and much love ,

This is an interesting point....

I am often surprised by how people react in front of a camera. Sometimes people who seem like they will have a difficult time are terrific and vice versa.
And then sometimes they react exactly how I would expect, too
I imagine everyone has that experience....
I think it would be nice to work with more people who have an interest in Faerie and Myth but it just doesn't always work out that way!

I am trying to work harder on getting more expression from models and then translating it into my work.

I've found for me, its not as important that I find someone who has a natural love or belief in the subject matter, as it is to find someone with some acting ability. Models often know how to pose and make themselves pretty, but they don't always know how to convey emotions. I usually give my models some background and description of the character they are portraying to help them with what they are doing. But sometimes you get a model that can't do that. One important thing, I've found, is to make sure they don't suffer from zoolander disorder when I look at their portfolio. For those who may not have seen the movie, I mean that they don't make the exact same expression in EVERY photo. Some models get stuck with one facial expression they think looks best on them, and that's all they give. You don't want to work with that one.

My favorite models are usually the less professional ones (as in they aren't looking to become a famous model, not they aren't professional), the ones doing it for fun, and the ones with acting experience if possible.

For me it is differnt because I have a a spiritual quality I am looking for . But yes I tend to work with models with less exp because they are more open to try different things instaed of fashion etc ... I worked with one girl once who showed up in a black evening gown and diamond earrings this was when I first started out . I then decided that I would only work with people who had some creative force in there port . and I now make all my own costumes or wardrobe . but for me yes it is good if the person can freely express themselves rather than have the same look throughout there port .

As I have not done any "profesional" work that is to say with modles. I know however that I may only use 1 in 500 pictures that I take because they have that little extra, that I know will come accross magically. That's my experiance anyway.
